Benchmarking
Procurement Services recognises the importance of benchmarking its processes. Whether this is benchmarking prices, approach our results, the data provides valuable information to us on our current performance as well as highlighting the areas we need to improve.
Price Benchmarking
We regularly benchmark around a 1000 high volume/value lines a month to ensure our prices are competitive in the market place.
To achieve this we use a number of service providers:-
Medical and facilities lines (including provisions) are benchmarked via Pi (UK) Ltd. Click here for information on Pi.
The teams use the data from this process to ensure pricing in Wales remains competitive and a range of price brackets exist based on the key lines contracted from. Medical and facilities baskets are available below.
Pharmaceutical benchmarking is undertaken quarterly via the Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA) who match data submitted from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to their own information. This data is shared with all the three nations.
The site-specific nature of Utilities profiles and charges render it difficult to accurately benchmark the cost of Utilities to NHS LHBs/Trusts in Wales with those of other organisations. However, Procurement Services receives daily market reports from various sources detailing current market rates for gas and electricity and this market intelligence serves both to inform our purchasing decisions and to measure the effectiveness of our utilities purchasing strategy.
